I Wonder As I Wander

In checking my blog Stats recently, I discovered that www.gothise.com was a referring site, with 23 hits. Gothise is a self-described Twitter site for alternative people. Okay, I am an aging ex-hippie so maybe that makes sense. But I do not twitter or tweet or whatever it's called. And I am at a loss to see just how my rather staid stitching blog came to the attention of the goth community. I haven't even waxed philosophical in any recent posts. I rather expect my 23 visitors from that site are as confused as I am. About the only thing we might have in common is a "what were they thinking?" shared head-shaking moment! Such are the arcane mysteries of blogging.

I've often come across the most interesting things as I've wandered around the net and blogisphere clicking on random links ... that don't appear to be risque!

I've seen the same thing on my blog, plus a few other odd sites that have nothing to do with stitching. But I can't see where my blog is referenced on those sites either. Unsettling to say the least.

Could be they were looking for dungeons?!!! Isn't that what oubliette means? My French is rusty so I could be way off! NancyinNY

Good thought! Oubliette refers to those cells at the deepest levels of the Bastille ... the word comes from the verb oublier which means to forget. the prisoners in oubliettes were truly forgotten.

You know, I had the same stats on my blog, Riona! Really strange--I'm sure they were quite disappointed when they arrived at my page and found a very tame stitching blog :)

I was wondering the same thing about visitors from gothise to my blog, Stitch Days. Not knowing anything about goth (other than Abby on NCIS), I finally decided that they must like to stitch as much as I do.
Riona, thank you for the explanation of your blog name.

I've gotten referrals from gothise as well. I have a feeling they are attracting ppl to their site by somehow showing up in our stats. I've had that happen before. Sometimes sites will even have a ticker tape going along the bottom, listing every and any random blog link, just so that they'll show up in our stats. They know we'll go to check it out.

They showed up in my stats too. I was worried they were making fun of me.
