Belated Blogaversary

This post is a little over a week late.  The proper date was 8/24/14.  I have been blogging for 7 years now and thoroughly enjoy the process of writing what is essentially a stitching journal, with the rare side trip into real life.  Writing about stitching is very nearly as relaxing as stitching itself.

I have the mind of a statistician and it seems very natural to take stock annually of what's been happening on this blog.

So, I find it interesting that during the past seven years:
I have written 1147 posts.  That's 190 posts since my last blogaversary.
Blogger has recorded 130,693 Pageviews, which means that there were 41,282 page views in just this past year .  That's up a little over 5,000 more pageviews than last year.  So I guess my readership is continuing to grow
Readers have left 3,829 Comments in the past seven years, 900 of which were in the last year.   Which works out to approximately 3 comments per post or 1 comment for every 34 pageviews.  The numbers of readers may be increasing but, clearly, I don't evoke much of a response from my readers.
I also have 228 followers.

What I'd like to do this year is ask a few questions about blogging.  If you choose to answer these questions in the comments section, you will be entered in a random drawing for a $10 gift certificate to 123stitch [an online cross stitch shop].  Seven questions, one for each year I have been blogging.

1. Do you prefer a blog that is
a] 95% stitching and 5% personal, roughly what my blog is .
b] 100% stitching and no personal stuff at all
      c] 50% stitching and 50% personal chat

2.  Whatever the preference selected above, what are your reasons for the preference?

3.  When reading blogs, be honest, do you just look at the photos and skip the prose?

4.  When reading a particular blog, do you enjoy tracking the progress of a specific project?

5.  How many blogs do you read on a regular basis? [Regular basis being defined as once weekly]
     a] 1-25
     b] 26-50
     c] 51-100
     d] over 100

6.  What sort of things do you expect to find on a blog, things that will keep you coming back to read?

7.  What do you like about my blog?  What don't you like about my blog?

Happy Blogaversary!!

1. Do you prefer a blog that is
a] 95% stitching and 5% personal, roughly what my blog is .

2. Whatever the preference selected above, what are your reasons for the preference? I love being able to see what is out there to stitch and what I might want to pick up for myself, but I also like to know about the stitcher her/him self. Knowing a little bit about the person helps to feel connected and not so much a hermit.

3. When reading blogs, be honest, do you just look at the photos and skip the prose? Most blogs I love to read the prose and look at the pictures. I have to admit that there are a couple that I just look at the photos.

4. When reading a particular blog, do you enjoy tracking the progress of a specific project? This is a big yes!! I love seeing a project start from a blank canvas (so to speak) and progress to a finished piece.

5. How many blogs do you read on a regular basis? [Regular basis being defined as once weekly]
c] 51-100

6. What sort of things do you expect to find on a blog, things that will keep you coming back to read? Regular photos of WIP/and completed projects as well as a well written update. (I still need to work on the well written part myself) :(

7. What do you like about my blog? I don't have anything I don't like about your blog. I like that you include enough photos to keep things interesting and I enjoy how well you word everything. Thank you for blogging and sharing your stitching with us.

Happy blogiversary!

1. Such precise numbers; I'm such an equivocator. Depends on the writing and the interestingness of the the person's life. 95/5. (Probably more like 75/25).
2. I guess most people think they are (and/or write) a lot more interesting(ly) than they actually are (do). (Am I the worst person ever?)
3. Yes. Especially if the writing is boring or bad.
4. I do like to track the projects. Sometimes I become distressed if the person gets sidetracked. You'd think I'd be okay with it since that's my m.o.
5. c
6. I guess I like to have a little bit of personality. Something that distinguishes the writer so I know what to expect when I'm at the blog. If I've been reading a blog for several months and I have to scroll to the top to tell who is writing it...well, she's not long for my feed.
7. I love how fastidious you are. And when you bitch about students' parents.

Happy Blogoversary!

1. Do you prefer a blog that is
a] 95% stitching and 5% personal, roughly what my blog is .

2. Whatever the preference selected above, what are your reasons for the preference?
I'm mostly in the stitching blogging community for the stitching. Little details make me feel more connected to the blogger, but I'm not in a similar demographic to most of them so a lot of personal life details get boring.

3. When reading blogs, be honest, do you just look at the photos and skip the prose?
Only if it's massive walls of text or the font is unreadable.

4. When reading a particular blog, do you enjoy tracking the progress of a specific project?
I love watching projects progress! It's one of the most fun parts of reading a blog.

5. How many blogs do you read on a regular basis? [Regular basis being defined as once weekly]
I'm not sure. I just use Feedly so however many people who decide to blog that week. Usually about 30 posts a day.

6. What sort of things do you expect to find on a blog, things that will keep you coming back to read?
Interesting projects that are somewhat similar to my taste. Regular updates.

7. What do you like about my blog? What don't you like about my blog?
You work on some really interesting projects and I enjoy looking at them. I'm not religious so those posts don't interest me (I don't dislike them. They're just not for me).

Happy Blogaversary! A survey too, my favourite thing!

1. Do you prefer a blog that is a] 95% stitching and 5% personal

2. I like to know a little bit about the person behind the stitching but the stitching is the focus for me. I'm not a fan of cookery, gardening or too much wildlife or other people's children so regular photos don't interest me. The odd one or two is fine.

3. I do read the prose usually looking for information about the photos!

4.Yes absolutely! I love those people that show before and after photos too so you can see just how much they have done.

5. Over 100. I follow everyone who follows me. I do divide my blogs into 3 categories, Favourites (read every 2/3 days), Frequent Comments (read weekly) and Others (read whenever I catch up). I do read every single post though I don't always comment.

6. Lots of photos, a feel for the person behind the stitching. A shared interest too.

7. I've enjoyed your Gallery posts most recently and your dragon stitching too!

One thing which is guaranteed to make me leave a comment is asking for my opinion on something!

2. I like to know about the person but I mainly read for stitching reasons.
3. I generally read the blog. If I don't care for the information, I rarely bother with pictures.
4. yes.
5. c
6. Photos and explanations of stitching. In most cases I don't care about projections. Well written blogs are like a conversation with the stitcher.
7. I like your well written interesting blog with the right amount of pictures and you are very honest.

Happy Blogaversary! I love that you posted one question for each year of blogging.

1. Do you prefer a blog that is
c] 50% stitching and 50% personal chat
Actually, my preference would be 75% stitching and 25% personal, although the choice wasn't listed.

2. Whatever the preference selected above, what are your reasons for the preference? I like seeing stitcher's pattern choices, thread and fabric changes, and finishing methods. I also like to get to know the person behind the blog, as if they were a pen pal.

3. When reading blogs, be honest, do you just look at the photos and skip the prose? I always read the prose. However, the posts can get a bit boring if there are no photos along with the prose.

4. When reading a particular blog, do you enjoy tracking the progress of a specific project? I enjoy tracking the progress of a project, although sometimes it can get boring if the progression in the WIP is too minor.

5. How many blogs do you read on a regular basis? [Regular basis being defined as once weekly]
a] 1-25

6. What sort of things do you expect to find on a blog, things that will keep you coming back to read? Projects that are similar to my tastes. I like to see regular updates with details of the WIP or finish. My pet peeve with blogs is when a stitcher posts a photo with no info on the pattern, designer, etc. I do like to read blogs where I feel a connection to the stitcher, whether it be shared stitching interests, pets, or life experiences. Discussions about stash acquisitions, shop visits, and pattern choices always keep me coming back for more.

7. What do you like about my blog? What don't you like about my blog?
I love that you are a wordsmith. Your blog is very well-written and contains details of your stitching, with lots of photos. I don't care for blogs that just state "here's what I worked on" with a photo....nothing more. I particularly love your theme posts, where you show all your Santa finishes or other themed finishes. I don't love the monthly "Goals and Assessments" posts, although I think you may do those posts more for yourself that your readers.

Happy blogoversary! I think I'll enjoy answering your questions, since I enjoy your blog.

1. The percentage can vary, depending on what the person shares. The things you share are interesting and informative, so I think you have a perfect combination.

2. Some bloggers share too much personal information of the day to day what they're up to type, and I don't need to know that she's been to the library or the dry cleaners, unless there's a book recommendation or funny story to go along with the outing. On the other hand, some day trips, especially with photos for example, can inspire me to make a small trip myself or just enjoy hearing about where they've been.

3. Oh, no - the prose has to be read!

4. I do enjoy following progress. It makes me feel that if I just stick with something, I, too, can manage some lovely finishes. Details about the design help my to-do wish list and my definitely must-do lists grow.

5. I have way too many blogs that I follow, but since not everyone posts daily or even weekly,I'd guess I read maybe 20 each day. (Or 140-150 posts read weekly - and if I just count actual individual bloggers, maybe the true number is actually closer to 50, since that's how you worded the question :))

6. I suppose I expect stitching photos, since most of the blogs I follow are written by stitchers. I also enjoy recipes, photos and details of places they've been (as mentioned above), pet photos... things that make me smile or feel a connection to the blogger.

7. I love your blog. I enjoy your school stories, having worked in a parochial school myself; your variety of stitching designs, as you make me reconsider some things I might have otherwise never dreamed of stitching; and your galleries, whether they be of finishes or like the recent show of threads. What don't I care for? I don't read all the detail of goals and accomplishments. I usually just look to see what you've marked as completed and silently cheer for your progress, then move on. I do understand it's a good way of keeping track of where you are and what you've been up to so I do feel it's a worthwhile post - but more for you than for me.

So... the bottom line from me to you is just keep p the good work! Thanks for all you share.

1. Do you prefer a blog that is
a] and c] and everything in between.

2. I generally follow stitchy blogs here on blogger but I don't mind personal stuff slipping in. I suppose it depends on the level of personal. I like getting to "know" the person behind the blog but not every minute detail.

3. I read them. I cannot comment on everything, but I do read them. It is difficult on some blogs that have special fonts (hard on my eyes) or do not post paragraph breaks but I make a valiant effort. This has become much easier with a feed reader. It's helpful when there are pictures to break up the wall of text (and something I should work on -- I'm VERY guilty of text walls).

4. Yes! I have a horrible memory though, so it can be hard for me to remember just where someone was before, especially if they have a billion WIPs. But it's always fun watching them grow. :)

5. c] I have well over 100 blogs followed but some post very infrequently and some post many, many times a week! I just guessed an average.

6. Regular photos. I also like stash posts because I feel like I have a very limited knowledge of what's out there. I also like challenges because it always amazes me just how much some people can accomplish!

7. Your blog does not have a ton of images along the page and with an iffy connection, that's something I really appreciate. Your page loads! I also love seeing your work. Even though some of the stitches I wouldn't do myself, your work is always beautifully done. Your theme posts are pretty awesome, too.

If I had to pick something about your blog I didn't like (and I really had to think about it) I guess it would be the way the comment page opens in a new window/tab. Maybe I get grumpy about loading a new page. But that's my silly ISPs fault, not yours. :)

Hello and Happy Blogoversary! Just going to fly through this cause it looks like fun and I have a spare minute:
1. Do you prefer a blog that is
a] 95% stitching and 5% personal, roughly what your blog is...Maybe more personal stuff...

2. My reasoning behind my preference is that I am nosey, and like to see what others are stitching, finishing and going through in their lives. Stitching buds are the Best!

3. When reading blogs, be honest, do you just look at the photos and skip the prose? Nope--see above!

4. When reading a particular blog, do you enjoy tracking the progress of a specific project?

5. How many blogs do you read on a regular basis? [Regular basis being defined as once weekly]

c] 51-100 (before my world changed recently...)

6. What sort of things do you expect to find on a blog, things that will keep you coming back to read? Projects that inspire me or that I like/admire, projects that I will never do so I will live vicariously through that blogger, Like your English Band Sampler, and the personal touch.

7. What do you like about my blog? What don't you like about my blog? Your tastes are eclectic so I see different things and you always write goals and progress reports! Again, I live vicariously through you! Cause I sure don't do that!

Hugs!
