Ninth Blogaversary

The start date was 8/26/08.    To celebrate, I'll be giving away a grab bag of 21 charts that reflect my rather eclectic tastes, including charts from Bent Creek, Calico Crossroads, Homespun Elegance, Mill Hill, Prairie Schooler. Primitive Needle, Rosewood Manor, Victoria Sampler, Whispered by the Wind, and Workbasket.  To be included in the drawing, just answer the quiz below in the comments section and include an e-mail address at which I can reach you.  The drawing will take place on the actual anniversary.

I have been blogging for 9 years now and thoroughly enjoy the process of writing what is essentially a stitching journal, with the rare side trip into real life.  Writing about stitching is very nearly as relaxing as stitching itself.

I have the mind of a statistician and it seems very natural to take stock of what's been happening on this blog.

So, I find it interesting that during the past 9 years:
I have written 1367 posts.
Blogger has recorded 371,267 Pageviews.
Readers have left 4,920 Comments.
I have 224 followers.

What I'd like to do this year is ask nine questions about blogging, one for each year I have been writing.

1. Do you prefer a blog that is
a] 90% stitching and 10% personal, roughly what my blog is .
b] 100% stitching and no personal stuff at all
      c] 50% stitching and 50% personal chat

2.  Whatever the preference selected above, what are your reasons for the preference?

3.  When reading blogs, be honest, do you just look at the photos and skip the prose?

4.  When reading a particular blog, do you enjoy tracking the progress of a specific project?

5.  How many blogs do you read on a regular basis? [Regular basis being defined as once weekly]
     a] 1-25
     b] 26-50
     c] 51-100
     d] over 100

6.  What sort of things do you expect to find on a blog, things that will keep you coming back to read?

7.  What do you like about my blog?

8. What don't you like about my blog?

9. Do you blog?  If yes, provide a link to your blog.

Blog survey:

1. A--90% stitching, 10% personal

2. I mainly read blogs to see what other people are stitching and to share triumphs and problems with the process. The little bit of personal info helps to give each blog its own special flavor so it's easier to visualize the stitcher.

3. I read the words and look at the pictures. I do enjoy well-written prose, and yours is well-written.

4. I do like tracking progress, especially on long-term projects. Makes me feel I'm not alone in taking quite some time for those bigger pieces!

5. regular basis? Hmmm, depends on the frequency of the blog posts. If everyone I once read were still blogging, it would be close to 100. Now it's closer to 1 - 25.

6. I come back to blogs that have unique voices, not just lists of projects and goals.

7. You're one of the ones with a unique voice! and a dry, wry wit, which I enjoy.

8. I wish you blogged more frequently. I missed you when you were recovering.

9. Yes stitchingfoolishness.blogspot.com

1. a] 90% stitching and 10% personal, roughly what my blog is .

2. I am interested in sharing our hobby and a little bit of personal stuff.

3. Always read the prose, I want the details on the fabric, the thread choices, any changes etc.

4. Yes. I like before and after photos, or an easy way to find previous photos. I like a blog with labels.

5. d] over 100

6. Things in common, similar tastes, stunning designs I haven't stitched myself, contact with the blogger via comments on my blog and replies to my comments (if applicable). A survey or questions. I do love to give my opinions!

7. The designs you choose, your sense of humour, it seems very British in some ways!

8. That you've been away for a while!

Happy 9th blogaversary!

1. a] 90% stitching and 10% personal, roughly what my blog is .

2. I like some personal updates in a stitching blog because it helps me get to know the person, as opposed to just seeing their stash, WIP's, and finishes. Still, I mainly like to see what they purchased, the fabric they used for a certain project, etc.

3. I definitely don't skip the prose! I like the backstory behind a project - if the stitcher made any thread or fabric changes, if it was a difficult piece, if they prefer certain subjects or designers, etc. Personally, I like the extra analysis.

4. I like tracking the progress of a blogger's project, to an extent. I do get bored if there are too many minor updates.

5. I used to read 26-50. Now it's a) 1-25, since many stitchers stopped blogging and are now showing their stash and projects on Flosstube (youtube) and Instagram.

6. Photos of finishes, stash haul, visits to shops, floss and/or fabric choices, accessories (I love seeing stitchers' project bags!), comments about useful accessories, finishing tips, the list goes on and on.

7. I particularly like that you make stitching goals and track statistics on various things.

8. I wish you blogged more often. Sometimes there will be a long gap between posts and I wonder what happened to you. Also, when you post regularly, I am more likely to check your blog more often.

9. No.
